Vinay Chakravarthy, was recently diagnosed with leukemia. To survive, Vinay urgently needs a bone marrow transplant. Due to genetic markers his most likely match will come from a donor who is South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, etc.). But because so few South Asians are registered, his chances for finding a match are at best 1 in 20,000.

Here is the good news - over the past several weeks a large number of volunteers have mobilized a nationwide campaign to help Vinay and many others like him improve their odds of finding a donor. We've harnessed the power of the Web, the media, and an amazing network to save lives.

Also, whereas donating marrow used to be scary and uncomfortable, these days it is much easier and can be nearly as simple as a blood draw. Despite the narrow odds, if you are every faced with the decision of donating, it means you'll have the chance to save someone's life.

Three Things You Can Do

1. Please get registered.

Getting registered is very quick and requires a simple cheek swab. Drives are currently taking place all around the country; please see the full list of locations here: http://www.helpvinay.org/dp/index.php?q=event.

2. Spread the word.

Please share this email message with at least 10 people (particularly South Asians), and ask them to do the exact same. Please point your friends to the local drives and ask them to get registered.
