The Situation

Since November, Vinay has undergone intensive chemotherapy. This week, we received the difficult news that the chemotherapy was not effective, and that Vinay requires a bone marrow transplant. This is a deeply difficult time and we need your support. There are not enough South Asians in the bone marrow registry. Since Vinay is Indian, there is a greater likelihood of finding a match among the same population as we share similar genes (genetic markers). It is important that as many Indians join the Bone Marrow Registry in the upcoming weeks to maximize Vinay's chances of finding a suitable donor.

Please know it is completely FREE to get tested or to donate in case of a match. There are no fees.

How You Can Help

1. YOU Register

We are asking all of you to please register at the Bone Marrow Website to help Vinay and many others just like him. Please forward this announcement to all people you know to do the same. Finding a bone marrow donor is very rare, which is why it is so important that as many people register as possible.

The procedure to register is less than a minute and is not invasive, just a simple swab of the mouth. The Asian American Donor Program (AADP) recommends that people read about the actual marrow donation procedure on the website before registering.

2. Organize a registration drive (it's easier than you think!)

After registering yourself, organizing a drive at your work place, school, temple, or wherever is the single best way to helpvinay -- because you get others to register. It's easier than you think, won't take more than 10 hours of your time (including the drive), and there's a strong support network to guide you through the process. 3. Get OTHERS to Register

Keep telling people about registering with NMDP. You can send your own e-mail, pass on the flyers below or direct people to this website. The more people you tell, and the more people register, the greater the chances to save a life!

4. Donate Blood

There is a severe shortage of Blood and Blood Products in the United States and worldwide. Many patients with Leukemia and other blood disorders need large amounts of Blood, Platelets and other Blood Products. Please locate your local hospital or red cross (www.givelife.org) to donate this valuable gift. Right NOW Urmi, a 5 year old girl, is in desperate need of Platelet transfusions. If you are in the L.A. area, visit the Childrens Hospital of L.A. (www.childrenshospitalla.org) and indicate your donation is specifically for Urmi.

5. Donate Money

Dear Friends, So many of you with generosity and kindness have asked how you can contribute. Although there are a number of bone marrow organizations that can benefit from your support, the best way for you to support VINAY is to go register, get your friends and community to register, and to keep organizing drives! There is no substitute for ACTION in the next 14 days.
